Log #1 11/13/14 (1.5 hours)
Ryan picked me up straight from school and we went around Alameda looking at possible business place opportunities for the store he will be opening and I will be working at. We looked at places like Alameda Landing, a storefront that will be closing down at South Shore and the previous site of The Party Warehouse, which would be an interesting venture as it is such a huge place
Log #2 12/6/14 (3 hours)
Today I got up early and went to Ryan’s house and started cleaning out his garage and assembling and listing computers on Ebay. Cleaning out his garage means moving stuff to one of his garages, at the time he has two, because he has to give up the other one. He also wants to finally get rid of some of his “junk” in his garage. We mostly listed fully completed computers today.
Log #3 1/17/15 (4 hours)
This week we went around looking at storefronts again, really taking a look at Alameda Landing, and looked around the surrounding areas to see how much foot traffic we would be getting depending on the place, we decided that Alameda Landing would probably give us the most foot traffic out of the three places we are considering as it will be a new and luxurious shopping center with a Safeway and food joints (we know the owners of one of them… Habit.) South Shore would we an awkward place to do this because it does not get as much traffic in the afternoon which is when we will be there the most. Party Warehouse could be interesting, as it would be so huge and that would just draw people there in the first place.
Log #4 1/24/15 (3 hours)
Today was my first day at my college class, yes on a weekend, but I still decided it was a good day to also do some internship hours. Today we did more work in his garage. This time we were mostly looking at laptops that needed fixing or that we had to just scrap for parts. It was interesting to learn about how computers worked and how to fix them
Log# 5 2/14/15 (3 hours)
As it worked out so well the last time, I did my hours right after my morning class. We basically did the exact same thing this week as we did the previous week (refer to log #4) as there was a lot of work needed to be done.
Log#6 3/7/15 (4 hours)
Today was different, after my college class we headed to the White Elephant Charity Sale. We went there to look for “broken” pieces of technology or vintage technology that we could refurbish and then sell for more than how much we bought it for. This took up most of the time, but afterwards we went around to basic scrap tech stores to look for things to fix up the things we bought from the White Elephant Charity Sale
Log#7 4/11/15 (4 hours)
This week, I got sad news. Ryan’s basement got flooded. His basement is where he kept his HUGE collection of books. He had first edition, and vintage books down there alongside hard to find mangas. He lost thousands of dollars in this loss. I helped him figure out what needed to be replaced and if anything survived.
Log#8 4/18/15
We decided this would be my last week doing my internship hours for Ryan. So we did a little bit of everything, we took a final look at store fronts, we also did work in his garage and then we went and got dinner, it was a nice way to end my internship.
Internship Closing Statement
This internship was honestly really awesome. I used all sorts of skills I already owned and learned some new ones. The ones I already knew were things like marketing, for example when we looked around storefronts for places to put Ryan’s store, and then I learned skills like how to fix computers and how to price things that I honestly before had no idea about. My daily duties were honestly fairly different every week. We kind of did a new thing every week, which honestly, I enjoyed the variety, it made it so I was never bored. I think I already touched on what I learned, but the thing that I took the most from it was the skills I learned with computers. The biggest obstacle in my internship was the whole fiasco with Ryan’s basement. The loss of all those books were tragic and that day was a tough one. Honestly, I enjoyed almost every single part of it, besides the day with the books all of it was incredibly enjoyable and I’m glad I did my internship the way I did, I would not choose any other way to do it.
